Zishaan co-founded “Chaupaati Bazzaar”, a phone-commerce marketplace, in April 2008. In 2010, it was acquired by Futurebazzar.com, the digital commerce arm of Future Group. It was during phase of his life when the idea for Toppr.com came to him. He reckoned students in India were spending enormous amounts of money on coaching classes.
Zishaan recognised that students studying at a time of their choice grasp concepts faster. Students prefer to study late at night or early in the morning, but at such hours they cannot get their doubts solved. Studying in the traditional classroom set-up, students shy away from asking doubts for the fear of being judged.
Recognizing this need-gap, he teamed-up with Hemanth Goteti, his friend from IIT Bombay, and came up with the idea for Toppr Doubts. They intended it as a live app where students could get their doubts addressed even at 2 in the morning, instantly and by experts.
Today, Toppr is a team of passionate and driven people working to provide the best learning experience for over 1 Crore students.
Leveraging a subscription-based service model, Toppr’s revenue grew 3-fold every between 2016-19. The revenue is split across all grades from 5th to 12th equally. The delivery model and quality of content will allow Toppr to encourage its 2.3 million subscribers to migrate to a subscription plan.
Toppr caters to the educational needs of students from class 5th to 12th studying in the CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE boards along with over 10 state boards. They also have learning packages for over 20 entrance exams from the engineering, commerce, and medical fields. They provide packages for multiple scholarship exams as well. Toppr believes circumstances should not create a roadblock in learning and offers scholarships based on the student’s merit.
WHAT LIES AHEAD?
Toppr plans to use their latest investment to develop the artificial intelligence based Toppr School Operating System. This platform will enable schools to run digitally unifying in-school and after-school learning, to create a standardised and personalised experience.

What is the Genesis behind setting up Embibe?
