Mumbai, August 20 – A major disaster was averted on Tuesday evening when the Mumbai Fire Brigade successfully rescued 582 passengers stranded inside a Monorail train near Mysore Colony between Chembur and Bhakti Park following a technical failure.

The daring rescue operation, carried out under challenging conditions, showcased the courage, discipline and technical expertise of Mumbai’s firefighters.

Fire Brigade Earns Civic Recognition

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani personally visited the Byculla Fire Brigade Headquarters on Wednesday to commend the officers and jawans involved. “The Mumbai Fire Brigade stands as the city’s strongest line of defence during crises. Their rescue of 582 stranded passengers is a matter of pride for every Mumbaikar,” Gagrani said.

He added that the incident had restored public confidence and demonstrated that the force is always prepared to risk their lives for citizens’ safety.

Top Leadership Involved

The situation drew immediate attention from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who remained in touch with civic authorities throughout the rescue. They were assured that all passengers would be safely evacuated – a promise that the Fire Brigade fulfilled.
