Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil Confirms Post-Facto Approval For Long-Pending Staff Regularisations

In a major administrative move, 87 non-teaching staff members appointed on compassionate grounds at the University of Mumbai have now had their services officially regularised. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced the post-facto approval of these appointments during a departmental review meeting held at Mantralaya.

The decision comes as part of the state government’s 150-day target programme, which aims to streamline departmental operations and ensure time-bound implementation of pending matters across various departments. The review meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary B. Venugopal Reddy, Director of Higher Education Dr. Shailendra Devlankar, and Director of Technical Education Dr. Vinod Mohitkar.

Minister Patil highlighted that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has mandated a structured reform plan across all departments, with emphasis on updating organisational charts, improving recruitment rules, and achieving 100% compassionate appointments within a time-bound framework.

The regularisation of these long-pending compassionate appointments at Mumbai University is a significant step in that direction. “We reviewed the pending cases and executed a timeline-based plan to ensure the affected employees receive justice. This regularisation brings long-awaited administrative clarity to many families who lost their earning members,” Patil said.

Additionally, Patil directed the department to immediately assess and fill all remaining vacant compassionate posts across the Higher and Technical Education department. He stressed that no sanctioned position under the compassionate quota should remain vacant, reinforcing the government’s commitment to responsive governance.

This move is expected to offer relief to dozens of families awaiting job security, and also bring much-needed manpower stability in the administrative functions of Mumbai University.
