Maharashtra To Set Up High-Level Committee For Bhiwandi Logistics Hub
State eyes Asia’s top logistics cluster in Bhiwandi; employment and infrastructure boost promised
Aiming to transform Bhiwandi into Asia’s premier logistics hub, the Maharashtra government will soon establish a high-level committee to guide the region’s development. The announcement was made by Industries Minister Uday Samant during a half-hour discussion in the state legislative assembly on July 1.
Responding to a query initiated by MLA Rais Shaikh, Minister Samant emphasized that Bhiwandi and its surrounding areas have enormous untapped potential in logistics. With proper planning and infrastructure, the region could emerge as a powerhouse of warehousing, transport, and supply-chain management in Asia.
“The development of this sector will not only elevate regional infrastructure but also generate large-scale employment. A dedicated committee will be formed to steer the logistics hub’s structured growth,” said the minister.
In a related development, a separate probe will be initiated into a tragic incident involving the death of a child who fell into a sewage tank of the Usman Seth building in Kasimapura, Khandu Pada, Bhiwandi. “This too will be investigated by a high-level panel. Action will be taken against any officials found guilty once the report is submitted,” the minister clarified.
The proposed logistics hub committee will submit recommendations to shape policy, and local elected representatives have been asked to take proactive steps and cooperate in its planning and implementation.
The move signals the government’s clear intent to place Bhiwandi on the map as a global logistics destination, complementing Mumbai’s port infrastructure and boosting regional economic development in Thane district.
