Pimpri-Chinchwad Development Plan Nears Final Stage With 30,000 Objections
Government assures fairness; citizens have until July 14 to raise concerns on DP
The Development Plan (DP) of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has entered a critical phase, with over 30,000 suggestions and objections submitted by citizens. The Maharashtra government has assured that no injustice will occur, and every grievance will be addressed transparently, as confirmed by Minister of State Madhuri Misal during discussions in the Legislative Council on July 2.
Responding to a calling attention motion by MLC Amit Gorkhe, the minister emphasized that the state has the authority to modify or even reject the DP if it’s found to be flawed or unjust. “Citizen participation is crucial. If any individual or group is being wronged, appropriate corrective actions will be taken,” she assured.
The DP is based on detailed surveys of population, land use, and density parameters, and was drafted accordingly. It is currently at the objection-and-suggestion stage, where the Town Planning Department is conducting hearings to evaluate the submissions.
Approximately 30,000 objections have been received so far. The government has provided time until July 14 for the public to raise additional inputs or objections, after which a final version of the DP will be prepared and approved.
Minister Misal stated that urban development is impossible without an approved DP, but fairness and inclusiveness are vital. “The government is committed to ensuring that the DP facilitates equitable urban growth and protects the rights of residents. Citizen feedback is not just welcome — it is essential,” she added.
The finalization of Pimpri-Chinchwad’s DP is seen as a pivotal moment for the city’s future infrastructure and zoning decisions, impacting housing, mobility, environmental planning, and commercial development.
