Thane SDM Releases Summary Of 173 Accidental Deaths Under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita
Orders Issued for Inquiry and Cause of Death for Each Case Between January–June 2025
Thane, July 8: In a significant legal disclosure, the Thane Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has released a comprehensive list of 173 accidental death cases recorded under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 for the period January to June 2025. These summaries have been made public under Sections 194(1) to (4) and further action under Section 196(3) of the BNSS.
According to a press statement from the Thane Revenue Subdivision, the office of the SDM has received detailed orders indicating the cause of death and instructions for further investigation in each case. The list originates from approvals given by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Thane Revenue Subdivision, and pertains exclusively to cases of unnatural and accidental deaths reported during the six-month period.
The statement, issued by Naib Tehsildar Rahul Suryavanshi, calls upon all concerned individuals—presumably the families of the deceased, legal representatives, or concerned departments—to take cognizance of the list. For further details or to initiate any procedural steps, stakeholders are advised to contact the SDM office at Thane Subdivision directly.
This development aligns with the legal mandate for transparency and due process under the revamped Indian criminal justice code, aimed at streamlining post-mortem legalities and administrative accountability. The public listing of such cases could also facilitate follow-up by family members who may not yet have received closure or documentation.
While the full list of the 173 cases has been attached separately, this administrative update is also expected to lead to renewed attention on death certification, accident probe protocols, and civil liabilities arising from these incidents.
