District Information Office Hosts Eco-Initiative, Showcasing 3R-Based Sustainability Model

Thane, July 8: In a symbolic gesture promoting eco-conscious governance, Thane District Collector Ashok Shingare visited the Terrace Garden created under the “Waste to Best” initiative at the District Information Office on July 7. The garden has been developed using principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) to convert discarded materials into sustainable, functional green spaces.

The Collector was briefed by environmentalist Vijaykumar Katti, who explained the garden’s creation process, the nurturing of plants, and the ‘Thread to Trend’ concept that adds aesthetic value to recycled elements.

Also present during the visit were Dilip Gupte, civilian member of the Thane District Soldiers’ Welfare Committee, Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Bhat, and information office staff including Raju Bhoye and Swarup Hule.

Speaking at the event, Collector Shingare praised the initiative, stating, “Creating useful, low-cost items from waste is truly commendable. Our lifestyle must align with the 3R values—reduce, reuse, recycle—if we are to build a sustainable future.”

He added that the government expects citizens to embrace eco-friendly and nature-conserving practices in everyday life, and that projects like these should inspire broader community involvement.

The Collector also commended the efforts of District Information Officer Manoj Sanap, environmentalist Vijaykumar Katti, and their teams for setting an example of civic innovation.

During the event, the official magazine of the Maharashtra government, ‘Lokrajya’, was presented to the Collector by Mr. Sanap on behalf of the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations. In addition, four volumes of ‘Maharathi Maharashtrache’, a book series honoring Maharashtra’s gallantry award-winning soldiers, were presented to the Collector by author and committee member Dilip Gupte
