Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma directs officials to expedite road repairs amid monsoon, over 850 potholes already fixed

In response to widespread complaints about pothole-ridden roads during the ongoing monsoon season, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has launched an urgent, war-level campaign to repair roads across the city. The directive comes from Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhabinod A. Sharma (IAS), who has ordered that potholes be prioritized for immediate redressal.

The task, however, is not centralized under one agency. Jurisdiction over roads is divided between multiple authorities: the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) manages the stretch from Fountain Hotel to Dahisar Check Naka, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) oversees roads between Dahisar Check Naka to Shivaji Maharaj Statue and Golden Nest to Subhash Chandra Bose Ground, while MBMC is responsible for Gaymukh to Fountain and internal city roads.

Adding complexity, multiple infrastructure projects have led to recent road excavations. These include a 123-km water pipeline upgrade and a 3-km underground sewage line, both of which have caused temporary but significant damage to road surfaces.

Despite these challenges, repair efforts have accelerated. Over the past four days alone, MBMC has filled 627 potholes using gravel and asphalt, while MMRDA has repaired 76 potholes between Dahisar and Subhash Chandra Bose zone, and NHAI has patched 150 potholes on national highway stretches. Separately, MMRDA is executing 37 cement concrete (CC) roads, and MBMC is advancing 15 more CC road projects across the city.

City authorities are urging residents to cooperate as they strive to ensure safer, pothole-free travel. The multi-agency effort continues in full force, with all departments working in coordination.
