NMMC Launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Drive With Tree Plantation At Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Park, Vashi

Women, students, senior citizens, and transgender community join campaign with enthusiasm

Navi Mumbai, September 17: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) kicked off the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025’ campaign with a tree plantation drive at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Garden, Vashi, marking the start of a 15-day program focused on cleanliness and environmental awareness.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde said the fortnight-long campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, will highlight public participation through various activities. At the launch, a large number of students, women, senior citizens, and over 125 transgender citizens actively took part, along with NGOs and local groups.

A special initiative titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” saw the plantation of indigenous trees. Volunteers from organizations like Lets Celebrate Fitness, Aai Mauli Foundation, Vidyasindhu Foundation, women’s self-help groups, and college NSS units joined in significant numbers.

On September 18, NMMC will organize plastic waste collection drives in municipal and private schools, along with workshops to create artistic items from recycled plastic. In partnership with Project Mumbai, benches made from recycled plastic will also be introduced. Additionally, the civic body is engaging Navratri mandals and garba organizers to promote zero-waste celebrations this festive season.
