SRA Developer Booked For Pumping Rainwater Onto Road In Oshiwara

BMC files police complaint after road damage, cites negligence in drainage measures

In a stern move, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has lodged a police complaint against Messrs Chandivala Developers, the builder of an SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority) project at Oshiwara Udyan Marg, Jogeshwari (West). The developer allegedly pumped accumulated rainwater from the project site onto the public road, worsening its condition during the monsoon.

Legal action initiated

The Oshiwara Police have registered a case under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 115(c) and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The investigation is being led by Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Chavan.

Road repairs amid heavy rains

The affected stretch — Swami Vivekanand Road near Oshiwara Garden — is slated for concretisation beginning October 2025. Until then, temporary repairs are being carried out. The road’s potholes were patched on August 2, August 23, and September 3, 2025. However, heavy rainfall over the past three days, combined with increased heavy vehicle movement from the project site, led to fresh damage. On September 22, 2025, after the rains subsided, BMC undertook another round of repairs.

BMC’s tough stand

Officials noted that the developer made no proper drainage arrangements for monsoon runoff. Instead, rainwater from the SRA site was pumped directly onto the public road, undermining repair efforts. Viewing this as a direct cause of the road’s deterioration, the BMC filed a formal complaint leading to the registration of the case.
