To markโฏWorld Environment Day, the Solid Waste Management Department of Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) organized a grand awareness and entertainment-driven campaign at theโฏBharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium. Held under the themeโฏ“Ending Plastic Pollution Globally”, the event was graced by the presence ofโฏMBMC Commissioner and Administrator Shri Radhabinod A. Sharma (IAS).
As part of the celebration, aโฏcapacity-building workshopโฏwas conducted specifically for sanitation workers of the city. Noted environmental experts and former BMC officialsโฏAnand Jagtap andโฏSatish Bhosale delivered training sessions during the workshop, enhancing the technical knowledge of frontline workers.
๐ During the program, sanitation inspectorsโฏAnil Rathod, Nitin Khair, and Shrikant Paradkar, along with several sanitation staff, were felicitated with certificates for their outstanding contributions to city cleanliness.
๐ข A major highlight of the day was the officialโฏlaunch and distribution of eco-friendlyโฏ“Thaila Bags”โฏas sustainable alternatives to plastic. Public awareness messages about plastic prohibition were amplified throughout the event.
๐ MBMC also flagged off theโฏSwachh Star Ranking Competition, which will run untilโฏJuly 31, 2025,โฏinviting citizen participation in keeping the city clean. Additionally, officials announced the upcoming rollout of theโฏโPlastic-Free Mira-Bhayanderโ initiative.
๐จ One of the standout moments included a live artistic performance by renowned artistsโฏAnnie and Aathon, who used Rubikโs Cubes to create a poster titledโฏ“Global Beat Plastic Pollution”, capturing the theme creatively. Their cultural dance presentation on plastic ban themes captivated the audience and drew widespread appreciation.
๐ฅ The winners of MBMCโs official Reels Competition were also honored with trophies and cash awards by the Commissioner and Additional Commissioner.
๐ Later in the event, the MBMC released two important reports: theโฏEnvironmental Status Report (2023โ24) and theโฏDisaster Management Action Plan, which were unveiled by top dignitaries.
๐ฑ In his closing remarks, Commissioner Sharma extended greetings on the occasion of World Environment Day. He emphasized,
โฏโTree plantation should not be limited to today. We must adopt tree care and conservation as a daily habit. Each citizen must recognize their social responsibility and contribute actively toward making Mira-Bhayander a cleaner, greener city.โ

Under the leadership of Commissioner Sharma and in collaboration withโฏMaking the Difference (MTD)โฏand theโฏGeneral Insurance Corporation of India (GIC-Re), a comprehensive door-to-door waste segregation campaign has been launched.
The campaign aims to achieveโฏ100% waste segregation at the source, starting with a pilot in Wards 10, 11, and 12.
๐ Key milestones so far:
- Distribution ofโฏ2,500 dual dustbinsโฏto promote segregation of wet and dry waste
- Installation ofโฏ25 composting tumblersโฏin residential societies to boost household composting and organic fertilizer production
- Deployment ofโฏelectric temposโฏfor efficient collection of segregated waste
- Placement ofโฏsteel twin binsโฏat 30 key city locations
This initiative sets a model forโฏsustainable solid waste management in Mira-Bhayander.
๐ฅ The event witnessed participation from key dignitaries includingโฏAdditional Commissioner Dr. Sambhaji Panpatte, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sachin Bangar, environmental experts, MTD DirectorโฏDeepak Vishwakarma, MBMC officials, sanitation inspectors, workers, and a large number of engaged citizens.
