โ€œDevelopment works at ports in Konkan must be completed with speed and transparency,โ€ emphasized Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane during a high-level review meeting at the Mantralaya on Monday.

The minister underlined the strategic importance of ports such as Karanja, Anandwadi, Mirkarwada, and Sassoon Dock in boosting the regionโ€™s economy and uplifting local communities dependent on marine activities.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Department Commissioner Kishore Tawde, Corporation Managing Director Avinash Pathak, Deputy Secretary Mr. Jakate, Joint Commissioner Dinesh Deore, and Regional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Bhadule, among others.

Minister Rane conducted a detailed review of port modernization projects being implemented by the Maharashtra Fisheries Development Corporation. The scope of work includes construction of:

  • Fish auction sheds
  • Ice factories
  • Workshops
  • Net repair and maintenance sheds
  • Sanitation blocks and public toilets

The state government has already provided administrative approvals for key development packages:

  • โ‚น149.80 crore for Karanja Port (Raigad district)
  • โ‚น92 crore for Sassoon Dock Fishermenโ€™s Port (Mumbai)
  • โ‚น88.44 crore for Anandwadi Port (Sindhudurg district)
  • โ‚น26.23 crore for Mirkarwada Port (Ratnagiri district)

Ongoing upgrades at seven fish landing centers across the Konkan coast were also reviewed during the session.

The minister also reviewed the operationalization of two new entities announced by the state government in October 2024:

  • Maharashtra Marine Fishermen Welfare Corporation
  • Maharashtra Groundwater Fishermen Welfare Corporation

๐Ÿ—‚ He directed that work begin immediately using the existing administrative framework in Mumbai and Nagpur. Minister Rane further instructed department officials to fast-track all necessary procedures to ensure that both corporations become functional without delay.
