Distribution of educational materials to students on the very first day of school

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) continuously strives to provide quality education and facilities to every student studying in its schools. In order to promote the all-round development of students along with academics, every student is provided with essential educational materials free of cost. This not only reduces the financial burden on parents but also helps improve the academic standard of the students, stated Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Mr. Bhushan Gagrani.

The ‘School Reopening Festival’ and educational material distribution ceremony under the academic year 2025–26 was held today (June 16, 2025) at Poinsar Municipal School in Borivali (West), Mumbai, in the esteemed presence of Mr. Gagrani.

Deputy Commissioner (Zone 7) Mr. Sanjay Kurhade, Deputy Commissioner (Education) Dr. (Mrs.) Prachi Jambhekar, R-Central Ward Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Sandhya Nandedkar, Secondary Education Officer Mrs. Sujata Khare, along with teachers, non-teaching staff, and parents were present on the occasion.

During the program, Mr. Gagrani symbolically distributed 27 types of educational materials to students from Grades 1 to 8. He also interacted with parents, addressing their concerns and extending best wishes. The joy among the students was overwhelming as Mr. Gagrani himself welcomed them on the first day of school with roses and chocolates.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Gagrani shared, “Whenever I interact with students in schools, it reminds me of my own school days — my teachers, principals — and fills me with respect. The values instilled during school life are long-lasting. Hence, BMC strives to create the ideal environment necessary for quality education. Teachers must hone their teaching skills, master the art of engaging with students, and implement innovative educational concepts in schools. This will significantly help in the overall development of students.”

Deputy Commissioner (Education) Dr. Prachi Jambhekar, in her introductory address, provided details about the preparations for the School Reopening Festival and the distribution of school materials.

Amid drizzling monsoon showers, the entrance gates of all BMC schools were adorned with rangoli, and classrooms were beautifully decorated. Students were welcomed with dhol-tasha beats and lezim dance performances, making for a vibrant and enthusiastic beginning to the academic year. Receiving new school bags, books, and supplies on the very first day brought immense joy to students’ faces.

On this very first day of school — June 16, 2025 — all 350,000 students from kindergarten to Grade 10 studying in BMC schools were provided with all types of educational materials free of cost. These supplies include uniforms, notebooks, geometry boxes, drawing materials, pencils, water bottles, lunch boxes, school bags, shoes, sandals, and socks.
