A towering 350-feet statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar—part of an international-standard memorial being developed at Indu Mill in Mumbai—is steadily taking shape, with Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode reviewing the ongoing work during his recent visit to sculptor Ram Sutar’s workshop in Ghaziabad.

Bansode expressed confidence that the statue, once completed, will serve not only as a world-class monument but also as a powerful symbol of Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy of social justice and equality.

The monumental statue, being constructed under the guidance of celebrated sculptor Padma Bhushan Ram Sutar, is currently in its early stages. The foundation and base—measuring 65 feet in length and 35 feet in width—will incorporate nearly 20 tons of metal. The total height, including a 100-feet high pedestal, will make it one of the tallest statues in the world. Completion is expected by December 2026.

Ram Sutar’s grandson, Anil Sutar, who is directly supervising the construction, briefed Mr. Bansode on the technical challenges faced during the process. The Deputy Speaker assured that all hurdles would be addressed swiftly and announced that a coordination meeting involving all departments concerned would be held in Mumbai next week.

During his inspection, Bansode emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards in quality and design. He also offered key suggestions to expedite the project timeline.

Present at the meeting were Ram Sutar, Anil Sutar, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Secretary Dr. Vilas Athawale, MMRDA Chief Engineer Prakash Bhangre, Umesh Salvi, Umesh Salunkhe (Shapoorji Pallonji), Atul Kaitikar (Shashi Prabhu and Associates), Bhadant Rahul Bodhi, Dr. Nagasen Kamble (Babasaheb Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan Din Samiti), and Subodh Bharat.

Earlier in the day, Bansode began his Delhi visit by laying a wreath at the statue of Dr. Ambedkar at Maharashtra Sadan. He then toured the Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial on Alipur Road, commending the government’s efforts in preserving the legacy of the iconic social reformer through an engaging museum. He later visited the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Center at Janpath, where he was welcomed by Director Akash Patil and presented with an MP introduction booklet prepared by the Maharashtra Introduction Center.
