Mira-Bhayandar Sets Up Dedicated Census Cell for 2027 Enumeration Drive
Commissioner Radhabinod A. Sharma directs transparent, accurate and time-bound implementation
The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has established a dedicated Census Cell to ensure systematic and timely implementation of Census 2027, as directed by the Government of India and supported by the Government of Maharashtra.
The move aims to facilitate the collection of accurate, updated and reliable demographic data, considered critical for long-term planning in social, economic and educational development. Following the state government’s notification under Section 4 of the Census Act, 1948, 12 municipal officers and staff members have been appointed to oversee planning, coordination and execution of census operations within the municipal limits.
Radhabinod A. Sharma chaired a review meeting on February 11, 2026, directing officials to prioritise accuracy, transparency and adherence to timelines. He emphasised that census data forms the backbone of national development planning and must be conducted with utmost integrity.
Additional Commissioner Dr. Sambhaji Panpatte has been appointed as Additional Census Officer, while Deputy Commissioner (HQ) Dr. Sachin Bangar will serve as City Census Officer. Chandrakant Borse will function as Census Control Officer, supported by ward-level charge officers and a dedicated administrative team.
The civic body has assured full compliance with government guidelines and urged citizens to cooperate by providing accurate information during the enumeration process.
