Ajit Pawar Pushes For 1,150-Bed Super Specialty Hospital At Ambajogai
Deputy CM says Swami Ramanand Tirth Rural Medical College must become a model institution for Marathwada
A major healthcare upgrade is on the cards for Marathwada’s rural belt, with the Maharashtra government planning to establish a 1,150-bed government hospital at Ambajogai in Beed district. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed officials to accelerate the project and ensure that Swami Ramanand Tirth Rural Medical College (SRTRMC) is transformed into a model institution offering world-class facilities and super-specialty services.
At a high-level meeting in Mantralaya, Pawar emphasized that the first rural medical college in India should not lag behind in infrastructure. “Funding will not be an obstacle. A new master plan must integrate ongoing and completed works, while ensuring that the upcoming hospital includes modern facilities and super-specialty care,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, Finance Additional Chief Secretary O.P. Gupta, Planning ACS Rajgopal Deora, Medical Education Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, Finance Secretary Shaila A., and senior officials including Dr. Ajay Chandanwale and Dr. Shankar Dhapate.
Pawar stressed the importance of early completion and urged officials to use existing buildings efficiently while the hospital is built. He also called for a proposal on setting up a super-specialty hospital, noting that patient load in Marathwada is extremely high.
Minister Hasan Mushrif added that the state is committed to raising the standards of the Ambajogai college and hospital, with the blueprint for expansion to be prepared immediately.
For Marathwada, which often suffers from shortages in medical facilities, this initiative could be a gamechanger. It promises new opportunities for local students aspiring for medical education and access to specialized treatment for rural patients who otherwise travel long distances for healthcare.
