
Authorities Instructed To Stay Alert On Road Safety During Ganesh Festival
District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal Orders Mission-Mode Work To Prevent Accidents
Thane, August 26 (CNI): Against the backdrop of the upcoming Ganesh festival, District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal has directed all departments in Thane district to remain vigilant on road safety and work in mission mode. He was speaking at a road safety review meeting held in the District Collectorate committee hall.
Multi-Agency Participation
The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dr. D.S. Swami, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsath, Resident Deputy Collector Dr. Sandip Mane, along with officials from municipal corporations, Zilla Parishad, Public Works Department, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Regional Transport Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Sub-Divisional Officer offices and Tehsil offices.
Collector’s Directives
Dr. Panchal reviewed ongoing works including road repairs and planning, heavy vehicle regulation, alternative route arrangements, accident reduction strategies, and citizen safety measures.
He instructed that:
- Temporary and long-term measures must be implemented at accident-prone spots.
- All concerned departments must deploy manpower at blackspots and vulnerable areas.
- Coordination between agencies is crucial to ensure no untoward incidents occur.
- Potholes must be filled immediately and traffic congestion minimized.
- Heavy vehicles must be banned on Ganpati arrival and immersion days.
- High-traffic locations should be identified, and special traffic decongestion plans executed.
- Adequate materials for pothole filling should be kept ready where needed.
- Emergency response should be provided within the shortest possible time.
- Duty charts must be prepared to ensure manpower availability round the clock.
Ensuring Smooth Festival Travel
The Collector emphasized that all efforts should be directed at ensuring citizens do not face inconvenience during the festive season. With lakhs of devotees expected to travel across Thane for Ganesh Chaturthi, the administration is pushing for safe, coordinated, and timely interventions to safeguard lives and maintain smooth traffic flow.
