BMC To Concrete Tansa Pipeline Service Road In Two Phases
Heavy vehicle traffic disrupts vital water pipeline maintenance road near Mumbai
Mumbai, July 16: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will undertake concreting of the 25.57 km long Tansa pipeline service road in Bhiwandi taluka, which is essential for the maintenance of water supply to Mumbai. The work will be executed in two phases to ensure smoother movement of heavy vehicles, announced Industries Minister Uday Samant in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
The announcement was made in response to a starred question raised by MLA Shantaram More, who highlighted the poor condition of the road that runs alongside the Yewai–Chinchwali–Pachhapur stretch of the Tansa pipeline.
“The BMC regularly undertakes maintenance of these service roads, but due to constant heavy vehicle traffic, the road frequently deteriorates,” said Minister Samant. He stated that 12.5 km will be concretized this year and the remaining 12.5 km next year.
The service road is strategically important, passing through several villages in Bhiwandi taluka, and is used for inspection and urgent repairs of the Tansa water channel that supplies water to Mumbai city. The frequent damage to the road has raised concerns about the accessibility and upkeep of this critical infrastructure.
Minister Samant also mentioned that a meeting may be convened if necessary to coordinate between departments and expedite the work.
