BMC School Student Wins State-Level Energy Conservation Essay Competition

Class 10 Student Manoj Kanojia Secures First Rank Across Maharashtra

A Class 10 student from a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school has brought laurels to the civic education system by securing first rank in a state-level essay competition on Energy Conservation, organized by the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA).

Manoj Ramkishor Kanojia, a student of the Hindi Secondary School run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Santacruz (West), emerged as the state topper in the prestigious competition. Competing against students from across Maharashtra, Manoj’s well-researched content, in-depth understanding of the subject, and compelling writing style impressed the panel of judges and earned him the top honour.

The competition, centered on the theme ‘Energy Conservation’, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students statewide. Despite stiff competition, Manoj distinguished himself with a structured and analytical presentation of ideas, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable energy practices and responsible consumption.

In the final results, Suvarna Patil from Nandurbar district secured the second position, while Vedanti Vani from Ahilyanagar district claimed the third rank.

Officials from the BMC’s Education Department stated that such achievements reflect the growing academic and extracurricular strength of municipal schools. Education Officer Sujata Khare noted that alongside formal curriculum learning, the department actively encourages students to participate in competitions that enhance reading habits, critical thinking, and writing skills.

“Teachers consistently motivate students to take part in academic and co-curricular competitions to ensure their holistic development,” she said, adding that the civic body remains committed to nurturing talent across disciplines.

Teachers, the school principal, and parents congratulated Manoj for his outstanding performance. His achievement, officials said, once again demonstrates that students from BMC-run schools are fully capable of competing and excelling at the state level.

The success story reinforces confidence in the municipal education system and underlines the importance of sustained institutional support for young talent.
