Dr Avinash Dhakne Assumes Charge as Additional Municipal Commissioner Eastern Suburbs
Senior IAS Officer Takes Over From Dr Amit Saini; Brings 31 Years of Administrative Experience
Dr Avinash Dhakne formally assumed charge today (5 December 2025) as the Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He took over the responsibilities from the outgoing Additional Municipal Commissioner, Dr Amit Saini.
On behalf of the municipal administration, Deputy Commissioner (General Administration) Kishor Gandhi welcomed Dr Dhakne as he stepped into the new role. Following the ceremony, Dr Dhakne called on Municipal Commissioner & Administrator Bhushan Gagrani.
Dr Dhakne began his administrative career in 1994 as Deputy Collector, Nashik, and is a 2010-batch IAS officer. Over his distinguished 31-year service, he has held several key positions in the state and central administration. His previous assignments include serving as Additional Private Secretary in the Union Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry, Municipal Commissioner of Solapur, District Collector of Jalgaon, Transport Commissioner of Maharashtra, and Managing Director of the Maharashtra Film, Theatre & Cultural Development Corporation.
He has also served as Sub-Divisional Officer in Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) and Malegaon, Private Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, Private Secretary in the Energy Ministry, Executive Director of MahaGenco (Mahagenco), Private Secretary to the Finance Minister, Joint Managing Director of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Additional District Collector & Controller (Encroachments/Evictions) in Mumbai, and Deputy CEO of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Most recently, he worked as Member Secretary of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
