MBMC Demolishes Illegal Constructions in Mira Road Creek Area

Civic Body Cracks Down on Mangrove Destruction; Multiple Structures Razed

In a major anti-encroachment drive, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) carried out demolition action against illegal constructions raised after destroying mangroves in the Mira Road creek area.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday morning under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Radhabinod A. Sharma. The drive was led by Narendra Chavan, Head of the Encroachment Department and Assistant Commissioner, along with Assistant Commissioners Priyanka Bhosale (Ward Committee No. 06) and Jitendra Kamble (Ward Committee No. 05).

Using JCB and Poklen machinery, the civic team demolished illegal structures at four locations. These included unauthorised constructions and tin-sheet compounds at Royal Family Garden Restaurant & Bar in Penkarpada (Mira Road East), illegal sheds and compound walls near Jafar Creek (Survey No. 38), makeshift godowns storing wedding decoration materials at Poonam Sagar Complex (Survey No. 36), and unauthorised structures behind the Hindu crematorium in the creek belt.

Officials from Ward Committees 03, 04, 05 and 06, hawker squads, police personnel and the survey department were present during the operation. The civic body reiterated that strict action will continue against illegal constructions, especially those affecting ecologically sensitive mangrove zones.
