Integrated Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana Improve Treatment Quality in Maharashtra

State Enhances Package Rates, Expands Procedures, and Introduces Stronger Monitoring for Cashless Healthcare

Mumbai, Dec 5: In a major step toward providing higher-quality and more accessible healthcare to citizens, the Maharashtra Government has integrated the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) with the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY), introducing substantial improvements from January 2025. The announcement was made by Annasaheb Chavan, Chief Executive Officer of the State Health Assurance Society.

The number of medical procedures available under the unified scheme has increased significantly—from 1,356 to 2,399. Package rates have been revised upward, and key reforms have been made to the payment process to ensure faster and smoother settlements. To enhance treatment quality, hospitals accredited by NABH and NQAS will receive an additional 10–15% incentive per approved claim.

To strengthen implementation and grievance resolution, the government has constituted the District Vigilance and Grievance Redressal Committee under the chairmanship of the District Collector, and the Jan Arogya Protection Executive Committee under the chairmanship of the Guardian Minister.

A 24×7 toll-free call centre has been launched for citizens seeking information about the scheme. Beneficiaries can contact:
155388 / 1800-233-2200, 14555 / 1800-111-565

Every empanelled hospital is now required to establish a dedicated Scheme Help Desk (Kiosk) at its entrance, staffed by trained Aarogyamitras who will guide patients. District Coordinators, Regional Managers, Implementation Support Agencies and District Civil Surgeons have been made responsible for immediate grievance redressal. Their contact numbers must be prominently displayed in every hospital.

The government emphasized that this integrated health protection step will ensure quality, timely and fully cashless treatment for all beneficiaries across Maharashtra. Hospitals must register patients promptly and provide complete cashless care. Each treatment package includes surgery (where applicable), diagnostic tests, approved implants, medicines, meals and one-time travel allowance—with no charges to be collected from patients.

Hospitals refusing eligible treatments or demanding money from patients will face strict action, including penalty, suspension or de-empanelment, following formal inquiry. All residents of Maharashtra are eligible under the unified scheme, and the government has urged citizens to stay informed, exercise their rights and approach Aarogyamitras, district officials, designated committees or the State Health Assurance Society for any assistance.
