Khatri House CHS Shopowners Allege Harassment: Complaints Rejected, Basic Human Rights Denied
Managing Committee Accused of Blocking Civic Rights, Refusing Lawful Communication, and Creating Inhumane Conditions
Jogeshwari (W), Mumbai | 30 June 2025
The crisis at Khatri House CHS Ltd, Jogeshwari West, has escalated into a grave human rights concern as shopowners accuse the Managing Committee of discrimination, mental harassment, and denial of fundamental rights essential for human dignity.
In their formal complaint, Mohammed Aslam Quraishi, representing the shopowners, stated that at least eight official complaints sent via Speed Post, Registered Post, and courier services were outright refused by the Managing Committee, with postal returns marked “REFUSED” by D.N. Nagar Post Office. Equally alarming, complaints submitted directly at the society office were not accepted, leaving shopowners unheard and unsupported.
“This is not merely a housing society dispute — this is a violation of basic human rights,” said Quraishi. “The deliberate refusal to address grievances, combined with denial of essential services, amounts to institutional oppression.”
The shopowners highlighted several inhumane conditions:
- No water connections, compromising hygiene and health.
- No toilet or bathroom facilities, in violation of basic sanitation rights.
- No sweeper service, leading to unsafe and unhygienic surroundings.
- No security personnel or CCTV coverage, leaving shops vulnerable to theft and danger.
- Exclusion from the common residents’ WhatsApp group, isolating shopowners from vital safety and community information.
- No acceptance of complaints in any form — not at the society office, not via Speed Post, Registered Post, nor courier.
- Arbitrary and unexplained maintenance charges, furthering the harassment.
According to the shopowners, these acts reflect a systemic denial of dignity, equality, and the right to a safe, clean, and secure working environment — rights recognized under both cooperative law and broader human rights frameworks.
The group has demanded immediate intervention under the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, New Model Byelaws (Amendment Act 2025-26), and urged the Registrar and authorities to act before the situation worsens.
Attempts to obtain a comment from the Managing Committee were unsuccessful as of filing this report.
