Maharashtra Signs Historic Partnership With Iowa To Boost Global Cooperation

Agriculture, Technology, Education And Renewable Energy To See Major Collaborations

In a landmark move, the Maharashtra Government has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Iowa (USA), opening new doors for cooperation in agriculture, food processing, renewable energy, health, education, tourism and technology.

The agreement was formalized in Mumbai on 12 September in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Senior officials including Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Principal Secretary (Higher & Technical Education) Venugopal Reddy, and Iowa’s Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig also attended the ceremony.

Key Highlights Of The Partnership

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Iowa, known as America’s “food basket”, has advanced expertise in agriculture and agri-tech. Maharashtra would benefit from joint initiatives in AI-based farming, biotechnology, digitization, healthcare, skill development, tourism and clean energy.

“This agreement is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of global cooperation and state-level international partnerships. It will accelerate opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, students and researchers in Maharashtra,” Fadnavis said.

He also underlined that this was the first-ever sister-state agreement with an American state, after earlier partnerships with Japan and Germany.

Iowa Governor’s Commitment

Expressing enthusiasm, Governor Kim Reynolds said:
“Partnering with one of India’s most dynamic states is a matter of pride for us. This agreement will promote innovation, economic growth, and cultural exchanges. Both states will send annual delegations to strengthen cooperation across industry, education and agriculture.”
