City wins national first prize in 3–10 lakh population category; sanitation workers honoured in festive rally

In a moment of civic pride, Mira Bhayandar was awarded the first national rank in the 3 to 10 lakh population category under the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25, India’s flagship cleanliness survey. To mark this achievement, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) organized a vibrant celebratory rally titled “Jallosh Swachhatecha Vijayi Miravnuk” (Victory March for Cleanliness) on Saturday, 2 August 2025.

The rally began at 10 a.m. from Maxus Mall and concluded at the MBMC headquarters, witnessing enthusiastic participation from both sanitation workers and residents. The event opened with a welcome speech by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sachin Bangar, followed by an address from MLA Narendra Mehta, who expressed heartfelt thanks to all sanitation workers and congratulated the city for its national recognition.

Sanitation Workers Felicitated on Stage

As a gesture of gratitude, five male and five female sanitation workers representing their colleagues were felicitated on stage by MLA Narendra Mehta and Commissioner & Administrator Radhabinod A. Sharma (IAS). The Commissioner stated that the prestigious President’s Award is dedicated to the hard work of these employees and the citizens of Mira Bhayandar.

In his speech, Commissioner Sharma thanked all civic staff, especially the frontline cleaning teams, and called upon citizens to behave responsibly to maintain the city’s top rank. “Let us embrace the spirit of ‘My City, My Pride’ to ensure lasting cleanliness,” he urged.

Citizens Join the Rally with Flowers and Cheers

The rally saw large-scale public participation with citizens joining MBMC workers in a display of civic unity. Women felicitated officers with traditional aarti ceremonies, while flower showers and cheers lined the parade route. Notably, post-rally cleanup operations were swiftly conducted to uphold the cleanliness message.

The celebration, led by Commissioner Radhabinod A. Sharma, was attended by MLA Narendra Mehta, Police Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chavan (IPS), and a host of civic leaders and senior officials, including:
