Mira-Bhayandar Marks 79th Independence Day With Flag Hoisting And Tributes

Commissioner Radhabinod A. Sharma Leads Ceremony; Martyrs And Freedom Fighters Honored

On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) celebrated with a solemn and patriotic flag hoisting ceremony at its headquarters on 15 August 2025. The event was led by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhabinod A. Sharma (IAS).

The day began with floral tributes at the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Kashimira and the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Fatak Road. Commissioner Sharma also garlanded busts of Shivaji Maharaj, Dr. Ambedkar, and the Freedom Fighters Memorial within the MBMC headquarters before unfurling the tricolor and extending Independence Day greetings to the citizens of Mira-Bhayandar.

Municipal employees performed patriotic songs in honor of India’s martyrs, while a special tribute was paid to the family of Martyr Major Kaustubh Rane, with his father Prakash Rane being felicitated. Veteran freedom fighter Murlidhar Holkar was also honored during the event.

As part of the proceedings, all officials and employees took the ‘Tiranga Pledge’, reaffirming their commitment to the values of unity and democracy. Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Sharma urged citizens to continue their cooperation in maintaining the city’s cleanliness and beauty, highlighting that collective efforts are needed to sustain the national first-rank cleanliness award recently conferred upon Mira-Bhayandar.

The ceremony was attended by Additional Commissioner Dr. Sambhaji Panpatte, Deputy Commissioners Dr. Sachin Bangar, Kalpita Pimple, and Kavita Borkar, City Engineer Deepak Khambit, Municipal Secretary Vasudev Shirvalkar, Executive Engineer Sharad Nanegaonkar, Assistant Director of Town Planning Purushottam Shinde, System Manager & PRO Rajkumar Gharat, along with department heads, officials, staff, fire brigade personnel, Maharashtra Security Guards, teachers, students, and members of the press.
