Mira Road Garba Egg-Throwing Controversy: Mohsin Denies Allegations, Calls It A Conspiracy To Pressure Him

Accused Links Case To Earlier Bakra Eid Dispute, Claims Political Targeting For FIR Withdrawal

Mira Road (By Sajid Mahmood Sheikh): The alleged incident of eggs being thrown during a Garba event at JP North Housing Society, Vinay Nagar, Kashimira on the night of September 30 has taken a communal and political turn. The accusation has been levelled against a Muslim resident, Mohsin Khan, who has categorically denied the charges, calling them a continuation of an old dispute meant to pressure him into withdrawing an earlier police case.

According to police, an FIR has been registered naming Mohsin Khan as a suspect, and an investigation is underway. However, statements made by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya and State Minister Nitesh Rane after their visit to the housing society have fueled communal tensions, residents said.

Speaking to the media, Mohsin Khan said:

“They claim I threw eggs and tomatoes from my 16th-floor flat. That’s false — I was in the elevator at that time. The FIR mentions only eggs, not tomatoes. If an egg were thrown from the 16th floor, it would have shattered completely. This seems to have been broken by hand.”

He added that “certain groups are trying to frame the Muslim community”, noting that out of 6,500 flats in the complex, around 5,000 belong to non-Muslim residents. “This is a politically motivated conspiracy for vote-bank gains,” he alleged.

Khan criticized Minister Nitesh Rane’s visit, saying:

“A minister takes an oath to uphold the Constitution. He should treat everyone equally. When nothing is proven, how can he declare me guilty? Had he called me, I would have gladly shared tea with him — I still invite him to visit my home.”

Mohsin Khan’s wife told the press that this was not the first instance of hostility.

“Two years ago, during Bakra Eid, some residents opposed us bringing a goat for sacrifice, leading to a clash. An FIR was filed against 11 people, and now my husband is being pressured to withdraw that case. This Garba controversy is linked to that,” she said.

Advocate Imran Khan, a resident of the same complex, stated that they had visited the Kashimira Police Station twice, seeking a fair investigation. “Police have handled the situation responsibly and assured us of impartial action,” he said.

A local resident, Yusuf Parmar, questioned the need for political intervention:

“If the minister trusts the police, why visit personally at this stage? The police have already contained the situation.
