Demands Criminal Action, Road Repairs, And Pedestrian Safety On Crisis-Hit Route In Palghar

Palghar / Manor — In response to a week-long traffic gridlock on the critical Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway No. 48, Boisar MLA Vilas Tare has issued strong directives to highway authorities and traffic police, demanding urgent solutions to what he termed a “chronic and life-threatening civic failure.”

At a high-powered coordination meeting held recently, MLA Tare underscored the highway’s economic and humanitarian significance, pointing out that the route is not only a trade corridor between Maharashtra and Gujarat, but also essential for the daily commute of industrial workers, transporters, patients, and students in Palghar, Vasai-Virar, and Boisar-Tarapur MIDC regions.

Tare highlighted serious lapses in road infrastructure, including:

  • Unfinished flyover works at Satavali, linked to 14 reported fatalities
  • Large potholes, hazardous for vehicles and pedestrians
  • Inadequate street lighting and absence of proper dividers or footbridges
  • Delays in industrial freight, triggering economic losses

He demanded that a case of culpable homicide be filed against the contractor responsible for the Satavali flyover delays. Responding to these concerns, officials at the meeting made several commitments:

  • Complete Satavali service road repairs within 15 days
  • Install 400 electric poles and increase divider height
  • Build pedestrian overpasses
  • Deploy 60 traffic wardens in three shifts for congestion control
  • Expedite pothole patchwork across key stretches

The meeting was attended by officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Regional Transport Office, Palghar and Vasai-Virar police, and local municipal engineers. Stakeholder organizations like All India Truck Drivers Union and TIMA (Tarapur Industries) also participated.

MLA Tare concluded the session by warning that if visible improvements aren’t made swiftly, mass public protests could erupt. “This isn’t just about vehicles—this is about lives and livelihoods,” he stated.
