
Red Alert Issued In Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri And Western Ghats For Next 24 Hours
Fishermen warned against venturing into the sea as high waves and heavy rainfall predicted
Mumbai | August 18: The State Emergency Operations Centre has sounded a Red Alert for the next 24 hours in Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and the ghat regions of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and possible flooding. Neighboring districts Palghar, Thane, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli have been placed under an Orange Alert, with district administrations instructed to remain on high alert.
High Waves Along Konkan Coast
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has forecast waves up to 4.3 meters along the Konkan coast.
- Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri: August 18 (11.30 pm) – August 20 (8.30 pm)
- Palghar, Raigad, Sindhudurg: August 19 (8.30 am) – August 20 (8.30 pm)
During this period, sea conditions are expected to be rough with winds at 50–60 kmph, prompting strict warnings for fishermen to avoid venturing out. Coastal erosion and strong tidal surges have also been predicted.
Heavy Rainfall, Flood And Landslide Threat
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall between August 17–21. Landslide-prone regions in the Western Ghats have been flagged for precautionary measures.
- Rivers Crossing Danger Levels:
- Jagbudi, Shastri, and Kodvali in Ratnagiri
- Kundalika in Raigad
District authorities have been instructed to maintain preparedness for evacuation if required.
Disaster Response Teams Deployed
- NDRF Team: Deployed at Kaudgaon, Parli (Beed district) for search and rescue operations
- State Disaster Response Force (SDRF): Deployed at Mukhed, Nanded district
Continuous coordination is being maintained with IMD and NRSC for real-time weather updates, while alerts are being transmitted to citizens through SACHET SMS and notification platforms.
The state government has urged citizens to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow all advisories issued by local administrations.
