
Tesla Officially Enters India With Mumbai Launch; Maharashtra To Lead EV Manufacturing, Says Fadnavis
Model Y Launched At India’s First Tesla Experience Centre; State Targets National Leadership In Green Mobility
Mumbai, July 15 – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that the state is on track to become India’s largest electric vehicle manufacturing hub, as Tesla officially entered the Indian market with the inauguration of its first Experience Centre in Mumbai.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Fadnavis said, “It is a proud moment for Maharashtra, especially for Mumbai, that the world’s smartest car is making its Indian debut here. Tesla’s official entry into the country, with the support of the Central Government, begins from Maharashtra.”
Tesla’s Mumbai Experience Centre, launched by CM Fadnavis, will serve not only as a showroom but also as a delivery hub, logistics center, and service unit. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, CM’s Chief Executive Officer Kaustubh Dhavse, and Tesla India officials were present at the event.
The company also launched its globally acclaimed Model Y SUV, which features:
- 15-minute fast charging
- 600 km single-charge range
- Zero tailpipe emissions
- Best-in-class safety standards
Fadnavis praised the vehicle’s features, noting that its performance and safety metrics align with Tesla’s global legacy of innovation and environmental leadership.
The Chief Minister underscored Maharashtra’s proactive role in EV adoption, highlighting the state’s dynamic EV policy which includes:
- Tax incentives
- Manufacturing subsidies
- Extensive charging infrastructure support
He announced that Mumbai will soon see four major charging hubs and 32 public charging stations, with Tesla services expanding to two additional Indian cities in the coming months.
This launch marks a historic shift in India’s mobility landscape, with Maharashtra at the forefront of enabling sustainable transportation and next-generation technology.
