Thane Collector Inspects Disaster Management Cell Amid Heavy Rainfall Red Alert
24×7 control room operational as authorities coordinate response to citywide emergencies
Thane, August 19 – With continuous heavy rainfall lashing Thane for the past two days and the IMD issuing a red alert, District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal on Tuesday inspected the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell, stressing the need for close coordination between the civic body and district administration.
Accompanied by Sub-Divisional Officer Urmila Patil, Deputy Commissioner G.G. Godepure, Disaster Management Officer Yasin Tadvi, and Deputy PRO Prachi Dingankar, the Collector reviewed the mechanisms in place to handle emergencies across the city.
24×7 Emergency Operations
Officials briefed Dr. Panchal on how citizen complaints are being received via phone calls, logged, and acted upon immediately. The control room also uses a CCTV network across the city to monitor real-time situations.
The data centre at Hajuri enables authorities to track incidents and coordinate emergency response. The civic body highlighted that complaints are being addressed within minutes of reporting.
Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF)
Deputy Commissioner Godepure explained that the Thane District Disaster Response Force (TDRF), modelled on the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has been instrumental in rescue operations not only within Thane but also across Maharashtra during flood emergencies.
Collector Panchal directed officials to ensure all agencies remain on high alert and to work in close coordination so that relief measures are executed swiftly.
Why It Matters
Thane, a rapidly growing urban centre adjoining Mumbai, faces serious flood risks during monsoon due to its dense population and proximity to creeks. The inspection underscores the administration’s emphasis on real-time monitoring, rapid complaint redressal, and proactive rescue operations
