
Thane District Calls For Proposals To Form Committee Against Workplace Harassment
Authorities Seek Women’s Rights Advocates And Legal Experts For 2025 Panel On Sexual Harassment Complaints
In a move to strengthen protection against sexual harassment in the workplace, Thane district administration has invited proposals for forming the District-Level Local Committee under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee is expected to investigate complaints filed by women employees in the unorganised and semi-organised sectors.
According to Government Resolution No. मकची-2014/ प्र.क्र.63/ मकक dated 11 September 2014, and under instructions from the District Collector, applications are sought for the posts of Chairperson and two members of the committee. The proposed structure will ensure gender sensitivity and legal understanding while dealing with harassment cases.
Eligibility For Chairperson And Members
Candidates for the post of Chairperson must be women with a minimum five years of social work experience and a proven commitment to women’s welfare. For the two member positions, applicants must be:
- Affiliated with NGOs or groups working on women’s rights, or experienced in addressing gender-based harassment
- At least one of the members must be a woman
- Preferably include:
- A person with a legal background
- A woman from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes or Minority Communities
All applicants must be residents of Thane district and have no criminal record. A recent police verification certificate is mandatory, along with academic qualifications, experience certificates, and a valid ID.
Submission Deadline
Interested candidates must submit their complete proposals by 29 July 2025 to the office of the District Women and Child Development Officer, Planning Bhavan, 2nd Floor, District Collectorate Premises, Court Naka, Thane West – 400601. The call has been issued by Namita Shinde, Member Secretary and District WCD Officer.
This initiative is part of Maharashtra’s effort to build local-level redressal systems that provide safe and just avenues for women to report harassment without fear or delay.
