Thane District Intensifies Crackdown As N-CORD Committee Reviews ₹8.24-Crore Narcotics Seizure

Multi-Agency Meeting Signals Stronger Surveillance On Drug Trade Across Thane, Mira-Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai

The Thane district administration has stepped up its anti-narcotics drive as a district-level review meeting of the Narcotics Coordination Centre (N-CORD) highlighted massive seizures and coordinated enforcement across multiple agencies. The meeting, chaired by Resident Deputy Collector Dr. Sandeep Mane, was convened to review compliance with directives issued earlier by District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal in the 18 November 2025 committee session.

Senior officials and representatives from the Police Commissionerates of Thane, Mira-Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai, the Industrial Security Force, District Health Office, Education Department, Social Welfare Office, Agriculture Department, Forest Department, Excise, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Postal Department, and other civic bodies participated in the high-level review.

Major Narcotics Haul Worth ₹8.24 Crore in November

According to official data, Thane city alone recorded narcotics seizures totalling ₹8,24,49,670 in November 2025, leading to multiple FIRs and arrests. Officials also reported seizures worth:

  • ₹29,17,780 in Mira-Bhayandar
  • ₹1,51,50,600 in Navi Mumbai

The confiscated substances included cocaine, ganja, charas, MDA powder, mephedrone, cough syrup bottles, and psychotropic tablets, signalling widespread trafficking networks.

Dr. Mane commended enforcement teams for their “effective and coordinated action” against drug syndicates across the district.

Massive Inspections Across Warehouses, Companies and Rehab Centres

In November 2025, the Thane police conducted intensive inspections across:

  • 48 warehouses
  • 52 companies
  • 20 de-addiction centres
  • 83 farmhouses
  • 70 chemical factories
  • 112 closed/defunct factories

The inspections targeted suspicious movement of chemicals, storage of contraband, and possible misuse of abandoned industrial spaces for illegal activities.

Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious drug-related activity on the dedicated helpline 1933, reinforcing public participation in the anti-narcotics effort.

Special Working Groups Review Chemical Units and Illegal Medicine Sales

A special review was conducted on the working groups set up under the district N-CORD framework:

  1. State Excise Department, Thane
  2. Food & Drug Administration, Thane
  3. Agriculture Department, Thane

These groups were tasked with verifying the operational status of chemical units—specifically whether factories were shut or functioning—and assessing risks linked to chemical diversion.

The FDA also presented its action report against medical stores illegally selling Corex, “buttons”, and other prescription-based narcotic medicines, a recurring issue in urban and rural pockets.

The Postal Department was directed to monitor foreign parcels arriving repeatedly at the same addresses, a known modus operandi for small-quantity drug trafficking.

The Agriculture Superintendent confirmed that no instances of illegal ganja or poppy cultivation were detected anywhere in the district till November 2025.

Awareness Campaigns To Be Intensified Across Media Platforms

Departments presented their progress on public awareness programmes held in schools, colleges and communities. Emphasising the critical role of communication, Dr. Mane instructed all departments to use social media, print platforms, and digital campaigns more aggressively to promote anti-addiction awareness.

He also stressed increased vigilance in forest areas, commonly exploited for concealed cultivation or storage.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and give renewed momentum to Thane district’s anti-narcotics mission in the coming months.
