Gram Panchayat Offices Host Camps Offering Jan Dhan, Insurance, Digital Banking Support

In a significant outreach effort, the Thane district administration has launched a series of financial literacy camps in tribal and remote villages as part of its “Dharati Abha” campaign. The initiative, ongoing till 30 June 2025, aims to integrate underserved communities into the formal banking and financial ecosystem.

The camps are being held at Gram Panchayat offices in villages like Rahur, Mende, Mohap, Dahivali, and Nevade, offering citizens on-site support and guidance in local languages. Key highlights of these camps include:

  • Opening of new savings accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)
  • Enrollment in the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)
  • On-the-spot digital banking assistance via financial literacy advisors and nationalized bank staff

Led by District Collector Ashok Shingare, CEO Rohan Ghuge, and Lead Bank Manager Abhishek Pawar, the initiative has seen strong participation from tribal women, youth, and elderly villagers. The effort is enhancing trust in formal banking systems and equipping citizens with tools to manage savings, insurance, and government schemes.

In addition to registration drives, the camps address queries about banking services, clarify digital transaction methods, and spread awareness of government social security benefits. The integrated effort of bank staff, local officials, and NGOs is strengthening the district’s inclusive governance agenda.

The “Dharati Abha” initiative underlines Thane administration’s commitment to empowering remote and marginalized populations through practical, accessible, and door-to-door service models.
